much.) to all these characters? And why is the 'platforming action' usely nothing more than jumping from one platform with collectible to another platform with collectibles? There are certainly places in the game where the 'stiffness' is somewhat less, but overall it nevers loosens up from its "walk, jump, shoot" interpretation of platforming. If you wish to call Psychonaughts a platformer, then why is Raz talking (so very. If it is a collecting game, then where's the collecting challenge? Psychonaught fails to deliver the "emotional reward" that is associated with collecting objects trough challenge.Ĭollecting coins in Mario games rarely becomes the object of reward in itself, the challenge of getting some bigger object (stars) is what matters, coins are just a gameplay facilitator during that challenge.Īs a collecting game, psychonaughts fails to create diversity of challenge and, in fact, the challenge itself. The backtracking in the game is fine with me because it doesn't take forever to move the story forward again. At this point the story is moving along just fine for me to continue. I usually don't finish platformers because of lack of motivation. It was really something being in that nightmare and just hearing those creatures lament. Finding the hidden room(not hard) with her past and nightmares was so awesome. Run around really fast, huge momentum jumps, and collecting all sort of things. Hard to put it in words, but it didn't feel like a level. In terms of levels, Milla's levels is my favorite so far. Finding arrowheads with that stick too a while though, but I don't think I spent more than half an hour on it before I got more arrowheads than I needed to buy that dream vacuum. I can only think of one spot where it became frustrating to get a card, but otherwise an attempt or two would usually suffice. I've gotten most of the cards in all of the areas, even before getting levitation. I also like how you can slide down or attach yourself to rails to make things go faster, rather than just running down.įor the collecting items, it's actually fun. Double jump from the start, you don't have to worry about balancing yourself on the tightrope, and once you get levitation you can do some really long jumps and glide to where you want to go.

Calling the old man with bacon also makes for a good laugh. It's also great that if you pull out different items you get different dialog from people, like the feather and button. It was fun to run around and talk to the kids, "you cannot run forever, bear". Usually games start out really bland and not until the middle does any type of interesting dialog appear. Witty from the start and almost all of the dialog didn't seem like filler. The first thing that took me in was the writing. I should be playing mass effect or rock band, but for this last week it's been my game of choice. I got this game last week, never played it before, and I'm in love with it.
